The 64th session of the American Legion Boys State of Missouri was held June 15 to 22 at Central Missouri State University at Warrensburg. Boys State was established by the Missouri American Legion to give young Missourians a better understanding of state government.

Five schools are offered at Boys State, each devoted to a particular field of study related to the curriculum of the Boys State program. Each school's instructors are working professionals who teach from real-world experience. The students learn about campaigning, legislature, media, law and police work. Every instructor donates his or her time.

About 1,000 boys attended this year's program from all over Missouri. Those attending have just completed their junior year at high school. Among those attending the June session from the Cape Girardeau area were:

Mark James Ruark II of Cape Girardeau attends Central High School and Trinity Lutheran Church. Ruark plays football and basketball for the Central High School Tigers. He is active in his church through various activities and participates in "Young Life." He is the son of Mark and Deandra Ruark and was sponsored at the event by Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge 639.

Robert Foeste of Cape Girardeau is a founding member of Central High School's Political Interest Group. He has been a part of the District Honor Orchestra for three years, a Pit Orchestra member and is a district winner for the VICA State Broadcasting competition. Foeste is also a Boy Scout and is currently a Life Scout working on his Eagle. He is a Student Senate representative, a member of French Club and the cross country team. He is currently supervising Central High School's Educational Access Channel 23 and the campus radio station, which is now being organized. Foeste is the son of Jane and Mike Foeste and was sponsored by the Louis K. Juden Post 63 American Legion of Cape Girardeau and the Excelsior Optimist Club of Cape Girardeau.

Tyler Cuba, a student at Notre Dame Regional High School, was sponsored by Cape Girardeau VFW Post 3838. He is a member of the National Honor Society, All-State Soccer and was winner of a National Physical Fitness Award. He participates in varsity soccer, varsity basketball and varsity track. He is the son of Rick and Rhonda Cuba of Cape Girardeau.

Adam Fenwick of Cape Girardeau is a student at Notre Dame and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul parish. He participates in St. Mary's youth group, is an honor roll student and a member of the Notre Dame varsity golf team. He is the son of Steve and Nancy Fenwick of Cape Girardeau and was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Breakfast Optimist Club.

Wayne T. Essner, a student at Notre Dame, was sponsored by American Legion Post 63. He is a National Merit Award winner in English, is on the honor roll and participates in varsity basketball, baseball and is volleyball manager. He is the son of Ralph and Donna Essner.

Whit Lynn is a student at Central High School and was sponsored by the Noon Lion's Club of Cape Girardeau and the Elks Lodge 638 of Cape Girardeau. He is a member of the First Team All Conference and First Team All Southeast Region in soccer. He is co-captain of his soccer team and a member of the National Honor Society, FBLA and Young Life. He plays guitar and piano in a youth church band. He is the son of Dan and Tammy Lynn of Cape Girardeau.

Brad Main is the son of Jim and Marge Main of Cape Girardeau and attends Central High School. He competes in cross country and swimming and is a varsity member of Central High School's State Champion Scholar Bowl Team. He is a member of the Maple United Methodist Church and is an Eagle Scout from Troop 5. He was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Noon Optimist Club.

Michael James Zimmer of Cape Girardeau was sponsored by VFW Post 3838. He is a student at Central High School and a member of the National Honor Society. He has won two Presidential Education Awards for Academic Excellence and has two History Student of the Year awards. He was named an Outstanding Citizen of the Year by the Sons of the American Revolution, was Spanish Student of the Year and the winner of the Excellence in English Achievement Award. He earned two varsity letters in football, and one in basketball. He participates in Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life and Student Senate. He is the son of James and Lori Zimmer of Cape Girardeau.

John Phillip Ray is the son of Dr. Joel and Patricia Ray of Cape Girardeau. He is a student at Notre Dame, is an Eagle Scout and participated in the Generations in Valor program. He has participated in National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, cross country, track and school musicals. He was sponsored by the Cape Gir-ardeau Lions Club.

Josh Essner was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Noon Optimist Club and is a student at Notre Dame. He is a member of the National Honor Society, International Thespians Society, Who's Who Among American High School Students and is a National English Merit Award winner. He is the son of Tom and Beck Essner and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church.

Christopher McAuley is the son of Edgar and Ellen McAuley of Cape Girardeau. He attends Kelly High School and St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Girardeau. He is active in Future Business Leaders of America, History Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club and runs track at Kelly High School. He is currently an assistant Scoutmaster in Troop 4 of Cape Girardeau and is an Eagle Scout. He was sponsored by American Legion Post 369 of Benton, Mo.

Wilfredo Colon II was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau West Rotary Club. He is a student at Central High School, has been a member of the varsity basketball team and is co-captain of the junior varsity soccer team. He is a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau and the son of Bertha King of Cape Girardeau.

Justin Spaeth is a senior at Notre Dame and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church. He was on Notre Dame's Scholar Bowl team and is a member of Science Club, in the school musical and will this year be in the concert choir. He is also in the St. Vincent's Youth Ministry play. He is the son of Kevin and Cindy Spaeth of Cape Girardeau and was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist Club.

Christopher Limbaugh was sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Rotary Club. He is a student at Central High School and has been vice president of the Student Senate. He has participated in varsity soccer, tennis, chamber choir, SEMO Wildcats Hockey Team, Young Life and is a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He is the son of Stephen and Marsha Limbaugh of Cape Girardeau.
