Four people were injured Wednesday afternoon in Stoddard County when their vehicle struck a tractor-trailer. Four people were injured Wednesday afternoon in Stoddard County when their vehicle struck a tractor-trailer.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Route 153 and Route Z when the driver of the tractor-trailer, which was westbound on Route Z, failed to yield to a vehicle driven by David Summerton, 61 of Tallapoosa, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The Summerton vehicle was northbound on Route 153 and struck the tractor-trailer.

Four people in the Summerton vehicle were injured: driver David Summerton and passengers Shirley Summerton, 57, also of Tallapoosa; Marlie Shepherd, 35, of Tallapoosa; and Carla Smith, 19, of Cape Girardeau.

The Summertons and Shepherd all suffered moderate injuries, according to the highway patrol. Smith suffered serious injuries.

All four were transported to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Willis Hicks, 52, of New Madrid was not injured.

The accident occurred at 2:54 p.m. Wednesday.
