Herman Weaver, a former member of the Detroit Lions NFL team, will speak to students in Southeast Missouri this week during a visit to the area.
His visit is being sponsored by members of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International chapter.
Weaver will speak at school assemblies in Scott City, Poplar Bluff, New Madrid, Sikeston, Perryville, Ste. Genevieve and Farmington.
Weaver, who played for 11 years in the National Football League, is a speaker for Sports World Ministries.
Weaver was nicknamed "Thunderfoot" by Howard Cosell. He played as a punter for the University of Tennessee and then 11 years with the NFL's Detroit Lions and Seattle Seahawks. He retired in 1980.
Weaver was honored as the NFC Punter of the Year in 1975.
He shares the story of his career choices and inspiring messages for students. The Sports World Ministries organization uses examples from athlete's lives to show students the impact that decisions they make now can have later in life.
The athletes talk about sex, drugs, violence, alcohol and the need for a good education.
Weaver will visit Sikeston High School today and Scott City High School Thursday morning. He will speak to Perryville students on Friday morning.
He also will speak at a breakfast Saturday at the Holiday Inn Oak Room, sponsored by the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship.
Reservations for the breakfast can be made by calling Bob Nation at 334-2632. Tickets for the event are $8.
