With a $5,000 check for the first installment of $25,000 pledge, Ford and Sons Funeral Homes of Cape Girardeau and Benton gave a significant start to the newly-established Perpetual Trust Foundation at the Cape Girardeau Missouri Veterans Home.

Interest earned from the trust will be used to help pay for many needs of the Cape Veterans Home residents which are not funded by the State of Missouri or the Veterans Administration.

Donations are the only source for funding outings and activities, clothing and other personal needs for the several indigent residents, as well as certain specialized medical or personal comfort needs.

Donations also pay for quality of life enhancements to the Veterans Home above basic furnishings such as aviaries, aquariums, flowering gardens, and TV sets for common use areas such as the dining room, lobby and sitting areas in the nine resident halls.

The Perpetual Trust Foundation will be administered by a nine member board composed of the seven-member Veterans Home Assistance League and two additional members. All are Veterans or spouses of Veterans.

The nine foundation members are; Max Stovall, president; Patricia Crossno, vice president; Euil Trickey, treasurer; Glenneta Vogelsang, secretary; Carlton "Cotton" Meyer, Jess Hopple, Don Thomasson, Cleo Mabrey and Lois Woodford, members.

Plans are in progress to seek out active Veterans group members, civic and business leaders throughout southeast Missouri to assist in a major fund drive for the Perpetual Trust Foundation.
