A kickoff meal of beans and rice will be served at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Wesley House at Southeast Missouri State University in celebration of World Food Day.
Mike Perry, coordinator of World Food Day events at Southeast, said, "We wanted to have some forum to experience a poor man's meal and discuss hunger issues."
Participants are asked to bring canned goods or other non-perishable food items with them, which will be donated to FISH, the local food pantry.
World Food Day events will continue Tuesday, when Southeast students with a Sodexho food plan will donate the cost of a meal to an international hunger organization.
Sodexho, the food service provider on campus, has agreed to donate to charity part of the cost of one meal for each student who participates.
