Though the rains stopped Wednesday, the National Weather Service has the entire local area under a flood warning until 6 p.m. today.
Flooding and road closures continue across the region today, the weather service reports on its Web site. Runoff and backwater could even worsen flooding in some areas today, the weather service said.
Federal and state agencies continued to assist with flooding throughout the night Wednesday and into Thursday, including the Missouri water patrol.
The federal government quickly approved disaster aid for Missouri, with Pres. George Bush declaring many areas of the state a disaster area Wednesday, the same day Gov. Matt Blunt requested the assistance for 70 counties in the state.
