Perry County was spared the worst of the storm, but a few motorist rescues and a home evacuation kept emergency crews busy Tuesday night into Wednesday, Sheriff Gary Schaaf said. Deputies and firefighters from the East Perry County Fire Department coordinated a rescue of Don Hicks from his home on Apple Creek Lane near Apple Creek,
"We were able to get Mr. Hicks out and his two puppies," Schaaf said, adding, "He was just happy to be out. His wife was waiting for him, and she was just tickled."
