JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Matt Blunt ordered flags at state facilities to be flown at half-staff in honor of a slain Missouri Department of Transportation employee. Kenneth Hoierman, a 15-year veteran for MoDOT, was killed Tuesday morning while assisting emergency responders on Interstate 55 just south of St. Louis. Hoierman had been diverting traffic around a car fire when he was struck by a vehicle, the Missouri State Highway Patrol stated. The flags will remain at half-staff until dusk today in Hoierman's honor.
