Two separate vehicle accidents Saturday morning injured five area residents, including two from Bertrand who sustained serious injuries, authorities said.

The accidents occurred in Cape Girardeau and Scott counties.

The Missouri Highway Patrol at Poplar Bluff reported that James Stacy, 68, and Gladys Stacy, 83, both of Bertrand, were seriously injured Saturday when their vehicle, a 1986 Cadillac driven by James Stacy, crossed into the path of another vehicle.

Also injured were two Bell City children, Charlie Lindberg, 6, and Brandie Lindberg, 8. The children, passengers in the second vehicle, received moderate injuries, a patrol spokesperson said.

The four accident victims were taken to the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, where a spokesperson reported that the Stacys were in stable condition. The children, she said, were treated and released.

The accident occurred at 11:50 a.m. on Highway 61 in Scott County, three miles north of Sikeston. The Stacy vehicle was making a left turn from the southbound lane and pulled into the path of a northbound 1974 Chevrolet pickup truck, the patrol spokesperson said.

The driver of the pickup truck was identified as John Lindberg, 38, of Bell City.

In the other accident, a Sedgewickville woman sustained moderate injuries when the vehicle she was driving ran off Highway 72 and struck a tree 2 miles west of Millersville. The accident occurred at 8:05 a.m.

The motorist, Helen Cook, 51, was transported to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, said the patrol spokesperson. A St. Francis spokesperson Saturday night described Cook's condition as satisfactory.
