Fireworks displays still on for Cape, Jackson

Despite drought conditions, the cities of Cape Girardeau and Jackson both plan to go forward with their Fourth of July fireworks displays.

Randy Davis, assistant fire chief at the Jackson Fire Department, said the display will continue as normal. A brush truck, as well as two fire engines and Jackson firefighters will be on standby at Jackson City Park.

Rodger Brown, commander of USA Veterans, the organization that puts on Cape Girardeau's display at Arena Park, said the Cape Girardeau display will also continue as normal. Brown said a Cape Girardeau Fire Department brush truck and fire crew will be present at the event.

Cape Girardeau County, the city of Jackson and the city of Cape Girardeau have no-burn orders in effect. Private usage of fireworks is allowed, but discouraged. Those choosing to use fireworks should use caution due to extremely dry conditions. The use of fireworks is banned in parks maintained by Cape Girardeau County.

The Perryville city government has postponed its display until further notice due to dangerous dry conditions.
