A firefighter was slightly injured while battling a fire in Cape Girardeau on Saturday morning that damaged a home and adjacent structures.
The Cape Girardeau Fire Department was called to the fire at 426 N. Frederick St. at 8:17 a.m., according to a report by battalion chief Fred Vincel. Fire was found in 50 percent of the home upon arrival.
Vincel wrote one firefighter suffered a minor injury at the scene and did not require immediate medical attention. No one else was injured.
The house sustained extensive smoke, water and fire damage, and houses on either side suffered moderate heat damage.
The fire was believed to have started in the home’s back porch. Its cause remains undetermined, and the state fire marshal’s office was called to help investigate.
Cape Girardeau firefighters received assistance from fire departments in Jackson, Scott City, East County and Gordonville.
