A Saturday morning accident at the Scott City Fire Station damaged the facility and a fire engine. A squad truck and engine were dispatched to respond to a vehicle accident on I-55 across from the airport.
Apparently one of the men had stowed his gear on the engine, but did not put the door down. The driver did not see that the door was open and drove out of the station.
The center column dividing the two bays of the station was knocked out when the door caught it. "It was just one of those freak accidents," said fire chief Jay Cassout.
