Fire department, police hold safety events

The Cape Girardeau police and fire departments are planning upcoming events. Public Safety Awareness Day will take place Saturday at Red Star Baptist Church. The Smoke Detector Picnic will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 29 at the House of Hope. The events will include games, a smoke safety house, a DAREcar, fire trucks and other attractions. Free smoke detectors and/or batteries will be available for those who need them. Residents who bring a copy of their home fire escape plan will be eligible for prize drawings.
