CAPE GIRARDEAU - Fire Sunday afternoon heavily damaged an unattached garage at 255 East Cape Rock Drive.
Assistant Fire Chief Max Jauch said the fire destroyed the contents of the garage and a 1974 Chevrolet Blazer that was inside undergoing repairs.
Jauch said the fire apparently started when a spark or a space heater ignited gasoline fumes coming from a leaking fuel line on the Blazer, owned by David Huber. The garage was owned by Verna Gregory, Huber's grandmother.
Jauch said Huber was not injured.
Fire Stations One and Three responded to the alarm at 2:22 p.m.
