Police responded to a fight outside the Main Street Bar and Grill at 701 Main St. around 12:30 a.m. Friday. The fight involved two women quarreling over a man, said Cpl. Ike Hammonds of the Cape Girardeau Police Department. One of the women sustained lacerations to the face when she was hit in the forehead with a beer bottle, Hammonds said. Police arrested her assailant but released her later pending issuance of a citation. A half-hour later, police returned to 701 Main St. following a report of shots being fired. An officer arrived to find "numerous people" engaged in a brawl, according to police reports. To gain entrance, police had to push past the crowds fleeing the bar, Hammonds said. When they did so, they discovered overturned chairs, tables, and broken glass strewn about the interior. The debris spread to the sidewalk outside, where litter and even loose clothing had to be cleaned up. Three people suffered injuries and were transported to the hospital. No arrests have been made yet in connection with the incident.
