Class members attending the 1993 Joint Reunion of the 1050-59 classes at Central High School have donated over $5,700 to the high school.
The group collected $3,700 which was donated to the school for the purchase of 37 new auditorium chairs. The committee was headed by Tom Womack (1954) and Jane Brennecke Womack (1955).
Alumni from the fifties also donated $1,500 toward the new gymnasium floor and another $500 for a new trophy case. Trophies from the 1950s will be displayed in the new case. Chairmen of this committee were Lois Leming Woodford (1951), Patty Ravenstein Kimbrel (1952) and Elizabeth Rose Grimes (1956).
Jackie Boswell Givens, reunion treasurer (1955), also presented a check to Central High Athletic Director Terry Kitchen to replace the Lou Muegge Award Plaque with the 1958 to 1973 award winners names on it. The original plaque had been stolen.
Givens' brother Wayne Boswell and Walter Grebing were the first recipients of the award in 1958. Kitchen received the award in 1970 and his name will appear on the replaced plaque.
The reunion has also presented a plaque to the high school in appreciation of the two principals who served the school during the 1950s -- Raymond L. Sheets and Fred M. Wilferth.
The Central High School classes of 1950-59 will hold its third joint reunion in 1998. Bill Evans (1955) has been chairman of the last two joint reunions held in 1988 and 1993.
Members of classes from 1950 through 1959 have issued a challenge to classes from other decades to make donations to the high school also.
