Police said a 15-year-old boy was injured Wednesday when a car struck him while he was riding a bicycle in the 1600 block of Broadway.

The boy, Eric Kelley, of the 2800 block of Tanglewood Drive, remained in fair condition at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, said a hospital spokesperson Wednesday evening.

Sgt. Carl Kinnison of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said Kelley had a large laceration on the back of his neck and contusions on the left side of his face, a shoulder, and an elbow. Kelley also possibly suffered a concussion, he said.

The bicycle, a 10-speed, and the car, a 1988 Dodge Daytona, collided about 1:50 p.m., said Kinnison. The collision occurred after Kelley rode the bicycle south out of an alley and was struck by the vehicle as it headed west on Broadway.

"When he was struck by the vehicle he hit the hood of the car and the windshield and fell to the ground," Kinnison said.

The driver of the vehicle, Christina Seyer, 16, of the 100 block of Dame in Chaffee, was not ticketed. In fact, from all indications, Kinnison said, the vehicle driven by Seyer was traveling very slow and probably coming to a stop for a stoplight at Sprigg Street. The collision occurred between Sprigg and Frederick streets.

Kinnison said police have also not ticketed Kelley.
