Geothermal heating and cooling will be showcased during a special field day to be held form noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at 280 Cody Lane in Quiet Lane Estates.
Architects, engineers, builders and the general public will have an opportunity to see the latest geothermal technology, which uses natural energy stored in the earth to heal or cool a home.
Union Electric and WaterFurnace International Inc. are sponsoring the energy field day. UE, which provides energy services to 1.2 million customers in Missouri and Illinois, encourages the use of geothermal energy.
The system works by using underground pipes to tap the earth's constant 57-degree temperature. In winter, the pipes absorb the earth's heat, turning that heat into warm air to keep a home comfortable. In summer, the system reverses the process to provide cooling.
