Few power outages, land line phone problems reported; wireless service out in some places

At&T reported no widespread problems with wire phone lines, but said there are problems with wireless.

The area south of Fredericktown, Mo., on Highway 67; Wappapello, Mo.; and Chaffee, Mo., were affected by lack of wireless service. Other areas in the state with wireless concerns are from Ellsinore to Birch Tree on Highway 60 and north of Houston on Highway 63, according to AT&T spokeswoman Chelsey Ilten.

But as of 5:15 p.m., wireless service had been restored to all areas but Chaffee and on Interstate 55 near Bloomsdale, Mo.

AmerenUE's Web site listed no power outages around Cape Girardeau this afternoon.

Steve Francis, a clerk with Black River Electric Cooperative, said at noon Wednesday that the Ellington, Mo., office was closed due to flooding but the Marble Hill office had reopened. He said there were outages in spots, but he did not know how many. "It's nothing like the ice storm where we had 2,400. Most of it is individuals or maybe a stretch of 10 to 12 homes," he said.

SEMO Electric Cooperative and Citizens Electric Cooperative reported no outages.
