The Federal Emergency Management Agency and State Emergency Management Agency will have a joint team of "mitigation experts" on hand starting Monday through May 3 at Southeast Missouri Builders Supply, 411 Jefferson Ave., in Cape Girardeau, according to a FEMA news release.

The experts will be there to assist people with cleaning up after the floods and give them other disaster assistance information. Teams will be at the store from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through May 2, and from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 3.

FEMA said today in a separate news release that local residents who have already registered for FEMA assistance, but have additional flood damage that wasn't previously reported, can apply to get funds for the additional damage.

Damage can be reported to the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or the TTY number 1-800-462-462-7585. FEMA will reinspect property for determination of eligibility, according to the news release. But no households can receive over $28,800 for flood damage overall.

Those who suffered damage from storms beginning in mid-March and haven't yet registered for assistance are encouraged to call the helpline as soon as possible.
