A federal disaster-recovery center has opened in Cape Girardeau to aid people and businesses affected by the recent winter flood.
Housed at the Salvation Army, 701 Good Hope St., the center officially opens today. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. The center will be closed Sunday, FEMA officials said.
Recovery specialists from FEMA, the U.S. Small Business Administration and other agencies will be available to discuss aid and assistance for anyone who needs help with a disaster recovery application.
The center is the fifth to open in Missouri. Others are in St. Louis, West Alton, Pacific and Arnold.
Flood survivors in any of the 33 Missouri counties declared federal disaster areas, including Cape Girardeau, Scott and Ste. Genevieve counties, may visit any of the centers for assistance. Locations of recovery centers may be found online at fema.gov/drc.
People and businesses are encouraged to register with FEMA before visiting a disaster recovery center. Flood survivors may register online at DisasterÅssistance.gov or by calling (800) 621-3362. Survivors also may register using the fema.gov app for smartphones.
