Cape Girardeau County Family and Communication Education members Judy Johnson, Mary Klaproth, Carole Jo Byrd, Shirley Heise and Missouri State FCE president Betty Schalk recently attended the National Association for FCE 2005 annual conference in Achorage, Alaska, recently.

"Anchor your life with FCE" was the theme, and 232 nationwide members met to renew their vision of strengthening families, individuals and communities through education, leadership and action.

FCE members attended workshops on diabetes, osteoporosis, skin cancer, breast cancer and heart disease. Other topics included the power of healing foods and living a healthy lifestyle, attitudes and activities following surgery.

Byrd received the Missouri Heart of FCE award, which pays special tribute to the unsung grass-roots members who have made a difference in their communities through their FCE work.
