ST. LOUIS -- The FBI and Bridgeton police said Wednesday they have recovered some of the more than $2 million in art works stolen from a storage unit in October, including original paintings and sculptures by Pablo Picasso and other artists.
The works -- in excess of 100 pieces -- were placed in a storage unit in Bridgeton, in suburban St. Louis, by the owner, a family that lives out of state.
FBI special agent Peter Krusing said police and FBI agents recovered some of the art work on Nov. 2, and more on Nov. 24. Fewer than half of the pieces have been recovered, and the investigation is ongoing, he said.
The works had been valued at more than $2 million in 1991, the FBI said.
