KENNETT, Mo. -- A 14-month-old infant was rescued from her home Tuesday just before it burst into flames, according to Kennett Fire Marshal Scott Tutor.
Tutor said the baby was upstairs asleep while her parents, Daniel and Jennifer Walton, were beginning to do yard work. The father noticed smoke coming from the structure, Tutor said, and immediately ran upstairs to get the
infant.
"By the time he got back down, whole thing was fully involved," Tutor said, noting that the father suffered minor burns on his leg, hand and ear.
No other injuries were reported.
Tutor said the call of the fire came in at around 11:30 a.m., and upon arrival the department encountered heavy black smoke and flames coming from the two-story structure.
Tutor said the fire resulted in a total loss of what appeared to be a guest house/apartment owned by Allen Branum.
Nearly a dozen firemen fought the blaze for more than three hours before giving the "all clear" signal, the fire marshal reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
