Police were searching for Gates, who was the suspected gunman in the killing of 21-year-old Brandi Hill on the night of May 22. The gunman and an accomplice drove away with her red 2015 Dodge Challenger with Hill's baby still in the car. They later tossed the girl from the car. She was not hurt.

Gates also was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in East St. Louis, Illinois, last month.
