PERRYVILLE -- The first Heartland Farm Safety Day, sponsored by the Farm Safety Council of Perry County, Perryville FFA, and the Perry County Missouri University Extension Council, will be held here Feb. 18.

"Tractor and Equipment Safety" will be discussed by Dave Baker, extension safety and occupational health specialist, who will discuss prevention techniques during the morning session. Dr. Steve Matthews, of the University of Missouri will discuss criminal trespass, and strategies for risk reduction during the afternoon session.

Other topics to be discussed during the day include chain saw safety, safe and health approach to ATV safety; storage and disposal of toxic farm wastes and agricultural respiratory, noise and chemical health hazards.

Farm Safety Days starts at 8 a.m. with registration. Ag business and equipment will host exhibits, and medical screenings will be available most of the day.

Cost of the program is $1 advance registration, or $2 at the door. The program is open to all Missouri counties and Southern Illinois.
