Former students and staff will bid Washington Elementary School a fond farewell during a closing ceremony Nov. 27.

Building tours and a fellowship meal are only a few of the activities planned for the closing ceremony, which begins at 12 p.m. A special flag ceremony will begin at 3 p.m., followed by a fellowship meal. A final program will be held at 6 p.m. Former and current students, teachers and administrators are encouraged to bring memorabilia to share during the day. A memory book containing school articles, pictures and other items also is being compiled.

The school, located at 621 N. Fountain, is one of two elementary schools being closed this semester by the Cape Girardeau School District. The buildings, two of the oldest in the district, will be replaced by Blanchard Elementary School, which is scheduled for completion later this month.
