HOLLAND, Mich. -- The mother-in-law of a Michigan man who disappeared in February said tools used to repair a flat tire were missing from his car.
The Holland Sentinel reported the new details were disclosed by Fred Byrne's mother-in-law, Marie Hamilton. The 49-year-old Big Rapids, Mich., man hasn't been seen since he drove his son to Hope College in Holland three months ago and visited his mother, who lives nearby.
Byrne's Chevy Malibu was found a few days later, hundreds of miles away in the Mark Twain National Forest in southern Missouri. His wallet was inside.
The car might have passed through Indiana and Illinois to get to Missouri. An aerial search of the forest in February didn't turn up any sign of Byrne.
