The Family Learning Center strives to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect and to help children with emotional or behavioral problems by strengthening the family unit.
The agency also works to develop positive parent-child relations and to help families cope with specific issues including the child's behavior problems.
The specific services offered include psychological testing, day treatment for pre-schoolers with special needs, and information referral.
Now operating under the auspices of the Community Counseling Center, the program is scheduled to move into a new building this year. The center is also exploring with the Missouri Department of Mental Health the idea of assigning case managers for each child.
The agency is also helping to develop a day-treatment program for severely emotionally disturbed adolescents.
Claire Farrow is director and educational therapist at the agency. For more information call 335-2588.
