The fourth annual Fall Fitness Fest is scheduled Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. on the St. Francis Medical Center grounds.
A Fitness symposium is planned Oct. 19 from 8:30 a.m. to noon. It is designed to appeal to athletes as well as the general public.
The competition track portion of the symposium will be held at The Human Performance Center on Mount Auburn Road and will include seminars and screenings designed to appeal to athletes.
Seminar topics in the competition track will include prevention and treatment of lower extremity injuries, optimal hydration for competition electrolyte depletion and replacement, VO2 max and sub-max testing, implications for training and competition, and cross training and fine-tuning for competition.
The community track portion of the symposium will be at the St. Francis Health and Education Centre. Topics include osteoporosis, exercise and aging; cholesterol; maximizing weight loss with exercise; and fitness for children.
The advance registration fee for either the community or competition track of the symposium is $10. To register, or for more information, contact David Elliott at 334-6711.
The Fitness Fest includes a biathlon (10K run and 20-mile cycling event) and a 10K run and a one-mile fun run/walk. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with events starting at 1 p.m.
Several organizations, including the Cape Road Runners, the Velo Girardeau Cycling Club and the River City C.B. Club, are assisting in the Fitness Fest. Refreshments will be provided by Domino's Pizza, Coca-Cola and Prairie Farms Dairy. All participants will receive a Fitness Fest shirt.
