Notre Dame graduate gets four scholarships
Cody Bell, a 2003 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, has received the Missouri Bright Flight Scholarship, Curator's Scholarship to University of Missouri-Columbia, St. John's Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary Scholarship and the Elks Club Most Valuable Student Scholarship.
He also received the Rotary Club Certificate of Academic Excellence, certificate of achievement from the Missouri House of Representatives and the leadership award from the Missouri Department of Health.
Bell, the son of Mike and Donna Bell of Cape Girardeau, plans to attend Mizzou this fall.
Jonesboro student graduates with honors
Amy Benefield of Jonesboro, Ill., recently graduated summa cum laude from St. Louis College of Pharmacy with a bachelor's degree.
She also received the Merck Award for the highest grade point average overall in medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, therapeutics and pharmacy practice.
She is the daughter of Eugene and Kim Benefield of Jonesboro, and the granddaughter of Lawrence and Jennis Benefield of Thebes, Ill., Joan and John Wood of Port Orange, Fla., and Dan Wilson of Wolf Lake, Ill.
Notre Dame graduate awarded scholarship
Douglas Schaefer, son of Richard and Ann Schaefer of Wolf Lake, Ill., was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the National Tractor Dealer Association.
Schaefer is a graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and attends the University of Missouri-Columbia pursuing a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering.
Area students participate in Scholars Academy
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Christopher Heggemann of Cape Girardeau and Garrett Huck and Amanda Sutterer, both of Jackson, were among the 330 Missouri high school students who participated in the 19th annual Missouri Scholars Academy in June at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Only the top 5 percent of all Missouri high school students are invited to the prestigious event, where they receive a crash course in college life and learning.
Students attended classes throughout the day, with choices such as: More Than Just Hillbillies: An Introduction to Missouri Folklore; Japanese Language and Culture; and International Relations: A World-Conflicts Hotspots Primer.
Felter graduates with honors from Mizzou
Douglas Felter of Benton, Mo., recently graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a bachelor's degree in agricultural systems management.
He is the son of Sam and Jolene Felter of Benton, and the grandson of Marcella Schlitt and Drusilla Felter.
Felter receives American Legion scholarship
Michelle Felter, a 2003 graduate of Kelly High School, has received the Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship from the Missouri America Legion.
She is the daughter of Sam and Jolene Felter of Benton, and the granddaughter of Marcella Schlitt and Drusilla Felter.
Local student named to dean's list at UNL
Kimberly Pancoast of Cape Girardeau was named to the spring 2003 semester dean's list at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a 4.0 grade point average.
Kelly students recognized at FBLA conference
Kristin Russell and Julia Vetter, Kelly High School students, were recognized recently at the Future Business Leaders of America National Leadership Conference in Dallas.
Russell, the daughter of William and Karla Russell of Benton, Mo., placed first in the nation in the word processing II event. Vetter, the daughter Mike and Ruth Vetter of Benton, was recognized as the Who's Who recipient from Missouri.
Local student named to honor roll at UW
Michelle N. Hency of Cape Girardeau was recently named to the spring 2003 semester president's honor roll at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyo.
