Area student graduates from University of Iowa

Sarah Denise Amrhein, formerly of Scott City, recently graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City with a degree in journalism and mass communications.

She is the daughter of Rebecca Moffat of Fort Worth, Texas, and Brad Amrhein of Mooresville, N.C. She is the granddaughter of Sylvia McCommack and Pat and Jerry Amrhein of Scott City.

Brune receives two scholarships

Lance Brune of Charlotte, N.C., recently received a fund for excellence scholarship from North Carolina State University and the Providence High School PTA scholarship.

He is a 2003 graduate of Providence High School and is the son of T. Lance and Eileen Brune of Charlotte. He is the grandson of Charles and Louise Brune and Ann Campbell of Cape Girardeau.

Jackson student takes part in Boys State

Jacob Adams, a student at Jackson High School, recently participated in the 64th session of Missouri Boys State at Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo.

He is the son of Gerald and Nancy Adams of Jackson and is involved in football, track, FBLA, pep club, drama club and his church youth group. He was sponsored by American Legion Post 158.

Sievers gets agriculture scholarship at Mizzou

Curtis Sievers of Jackson is the recipient of a $1,500 scholarship to the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources at the University of Missouri-Columbia for the fall 2003 semester.

He is the son of Lonnie and Marilyn Sievers of Jackson.

Jackson students graduate from UMR

Brent Pfeiffer, Jennifer Weil and Darryll Weil II of Jackson recently graduated from University of Missouri-Rolla.

Pfeiffer received a bachelor's degree, and Jennifer Weil and Darryll Weil both received master's degrees.

Area student named to Maryville dean's list

Gail Heuschober of Cape Girardeau was among the students named to the 2003 spring semester dean's list at Maryville University in St. Louis.

Area students awarded P&G fund scholarships

Tyler Cookson and Brandy Shy of Oran, Mo., Ryan Goetz of Chaffee, Mo., Michal Scienski of Cape Girardeau and Megan Glastetter of East Prairie, Mo., were among 146 students to receive scholarships this year from the Procter & Gamble Fund Scholarship.

As children of P&G employees, the scholarship winners will receive $2,500 toward full-time study at an accredited college or university.

Cookson is the son of Tammy and Kent Blocker of Oran and Steve Cookson of Naylor, Mo.; Glastetter is the daughter of Frederick Glastetter of Oran and Cathy and Scott Downing of East Prairie, Mo.

Goetz is the son of Larry and Vicki Goetz of Chaffee; Scienski is the son of Marek and Irena Scienski of Cape Girardeau, and Shy is the daughter of Kathy Shy of Jackson and Sam Shy of Oran.

Phelps joins national collegiate society

Cristy Ann Phelps of Cape Girardeau recently accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

The society is a selective, non-profit honors organization that recognizes first- and second-year undergraduate students who excel academically.

Phelps will be honored during a campus ceremony this fall at the University of Missouri-Columbia, where she is a student. She is the daughter of Dan and Carolyn Phelps of Cape Girardeau.

Area students receive SEMO scholarships

Ashley Jones of Cape Girardeau and Matthew McComas of Jackson have been awarded President's scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2003-2004 academic year.

The scholarship is worth $1,500 per academic year for up to four consecutive years.

Jones, the daughter of Mitch and DeRonda Propst of Cape Girardeau, is a 2003 graduate of Central High School in Cape Girardeau.

McComas, the son of Mike and Jennifer McComas of Jackson, is a 2003 graduate of Jackson High School.

Amber Stewart of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a Community College Scholarship, a renewable award of $1,500 for two semesters.

Stewart is a graduate of Shawnee Community College and Bell City High School. She is the wife of Daniel Stewart and the daughter of Darrel and Robin Burnett.

Nathaniel Pierce of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a General Education Degree Scholarship which covers tuition for up to 32 credit hours of classes per academic year for up to four years.

Pierce, the son of Steve and Sherri Pierce of Cape Girardeau, is a graduate of Central High School of Cape Girardeau.

Miller named to Quincy University dean's list

Zach Miller, a 1999 graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, was named to the spring 2003 semester dean's list at Quincy University in Quincy, Ill.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mitch Miller and is a senior marketing major.
