Eye anatomy and discussion of a dry eye study will be the program when the Sjogren's Support Group meets Tuesday at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. on the first floor of the Regional Cancer Center. Dr. Thomas Gibbons will present the program. The group's meetings are open to individuals with Sjogren's and their families.
Sjogren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease. It was first identified in 1933 by a Swedish physician, Henrik Sjogren, who wrote about a group of women whose chronic arthritis was accompanied by dry eyes and dry mouth. Although the cause of Sjogren's is unknown, researchers believe both hereditary factors and viruses play a role.
