POPLAR BLUFF -- Junior Everett Farris, 71, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday afternoon at the John J. Pershing Veterans Hospital.
Farris retired from the Poplar Bluff Fire Department in 1977.
He served as fire chief from 1959-1977 and was responsible for the Fire Station No. 3, the upgrade of the city's fire department equipment and the Poplar Bluff Fire Department's insurance being an all-time low.
Farris served in the Army in World War II and was part of the occupational force in Japan after the war. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was born Oct. 24, 1927, in Qulin and was a member of the Church of God in Poplar Bluff. He enjoyed rodeos and saddled horses.
In 1949 he married Pat Hathaway of Piggott, Ark.
Survivors include two children, Larry Farris of Miland and Debra Davis of St. Peters; five granddaughters, one grandson, one great-granddaughter and one great-grandson.
