A book signing by regional authors will be held today and Friday in connection with Southeast Missouri State University's Heritage Days celebration.
Today, Nolan Porterfield of the department of English at Southeast will be at the University Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Authors Robert Vaughn, Connie Bennett and George Suggs will be at the University Center on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Heritage Days event celebrates the history of the region and will be held through Saturday at the university. Regional history and cultural exhibits will be displayed today and Friday in the University Center lobby.
Also today, an educational program will explain the evolution of regional dialects, and storyteller Marilyn Kinsella will present German and Native American folk lore. Both are scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University Center. On Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Lea Hecht, Department of English at Southeast, will discuss how to research family histories.
From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, an outdoor concert and bazaar will make up the "Heritage Days Jam." Local entertainers will perform rap, pop, gospel, blues and country music on the terraces of Academic Hall. Regional arts and crafts will also be displayed and sold. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to the Student Recreation Center in the Show Me Center.
