State law requires the commission to adjust the caps every two years according to the Consumer Price Index, executive director Chuck Lamb said.

The commission on Thursday approved new limits that will be in effect for this year's elections.

Individuals may now donate $1,175 to a candidate for statewide office, a $50 increase. For legislative races, permissible donations from individuals were raised $25, to $300 for House candidates and $575 for Senate candidates.
