ESSEX, Mo. -- Margaret "Sissy" Crites, an active member of the Essex community, was killed in a car accident Wednesday morning at U.S. 60 and Route FF in Stoddard County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that Crites, 60, was driving southbound towards Highway FF in a pickup truck when she pulled into the path of a car driven by Jason E. Farris of Golden City, Mo.

Crites was pronounced dead at the scene by Stoddard County Coroner Greg Mathis.

Farris sustained minimal injuries and was transported to Southern Missouri Health Care in Dexter, Mo.

Crites has long been active in the Essex and Stoddard County community as a Girl Scout leader, volunteer in the Cotton Boll Council, member of the board of the Stoddard County Children's Home and active in activities in the Richland School District.

She was married to Gary Crites, and they had four children.

Funeral arrangements were being handled by Rainey Funeral Home.
