The Cape Girardeau Board of Education remained much the same after a organizational meeting Monday night.

New board officers were elected and appointed. Dr. Ferrell Ervin, in his third term as a board member, was re-elected board president for a third year. Mark Carver, who is serving the second year of his first three-year term, was elected vice-president of the board.

Incumbents Bob Blank and the Rev. William Bird returned for repeat terms on the board after decisive victories during last week's elections. Joining them was newcomer Sharon Mueller, who is serving her first term in public office.

Official election results were read and approved during the meeting. Certified vote totals were: Blank, 3,046; Bird, 2,957; Mueller, 2,613; Tina Trickey, 2,518; Gary McIntyre, 1,894; Debra Mitchell-Braxton, 1,638; Marty Clay, 1,259; and Andrew Ostrowski, 998.

District employees Dr. Steve Del Vecchio and Laverne Smith were reappointed secretary and treasurer of the board, respectively.

Each school board member serves on a standing committee that meets monthly. Few standing committee positions were altered during the meeting. Mueller will join David Goncher on the policy committee, Bird will join Blank on the buildings and grounds committee, Carver and Ervin will serve on the community relations committee and Goncher will join Bob Fox on the legislative committee.

Goncher and Carver also were appointed delegates to the Missouri School Boards Association Assembly. Goncher will be the primary delegate, and Carver will be the alternate delegate.
