EPIC, or Early Prevention Impacts Community, is recognizing outstanding examples of substance abuse prevention efforts by area secondary schools.

  • Having written policies and procedures related to alcohol, tobacco and other drug use.
  • Implementing age-appropriate substance prevention programs, THRIVE (Teach, Hope, Reach, Involve, Value and Encourage) or Mutt-i-grees, in which troubled teens train shelter dogs for adoption.
  • Empowering students to lead activities that are beneficial to the school or community.
  • Offering teachers and staff members professional development training opportunities in substance abuse prevention.

The deadline for schools to submit proposals is Oct. 31. Submissions will be reviewed by EPIC's Advocacy Committee. Selections will be announced in November. For more information, contact project coordinator Jessica Belanger at epicjessicabelanger@gmail.com.
