An enhanced enterprise zone would be an economic development tool for Cape Girardeau and Jackson, Mitch Robinson, executive director of Cape Girardeau Area Magnet, told the Jackson Board of Aldermen on Monday night.
Robinson discussed the proposal during the board's meeting, explaining the zone would offer tax incentives to attract businesses and would include sections of Jackson and Cape Girardeau.
City leaders will attend a meeting Thursday that will include a presentation by the Missouri Department of Economic Development to learn more about the zone, as well as what would be required of the city.
Aldermen also heard a presentation by the SEMO Drug Task Force regarding the sale of pseudoephedrine, an ingredient in many over-the-counter cold medicines and methamphetamine. The task force said while tracking the legal purchase of pseudoephedrine helps curtail the number of meth labs to some extent, it is not as effective as ordinances requiring a prescription for the medication.
