Emergency conference scheduled

Emergency Update '95: Violence Around Us, the eighth annual conference for paramedics, EMTs, nurses, physicians and allied health care professionals, will be held next Saturday at Holiday Inn, Cape Girardeau.

The LifeBeat Air Medical Service and Southeast Missouri Hospital are conference sponsors.

The daylong conference will begin at 7:30 a.m., with registration and a continental breakfast. The morning agenda will deal with gangs and cults. Following lunch, which LifeBeat and the hospital will provide, the afternoon conference topics will include: "Evidence Preservation," "Gunshot Wounds: What They Tell Us," Critical Incident Stress Debriefing," "Self-Defense for Medical Personnel" and "Myths, Madness, Medics."

The fee is $30, and application has been made for eight contact hours for registered nurses, paramedics and EMTs. Physicians will also receive credit from the appropriate medical specialty organizations.
