Cameron is a 2-year-old that can't get enough of Elmo, SpongeBob SquarePants and Shrek. He'd like any of those characters and toys for Christmas.
Destiny, 4, likes "anything to do with dolls," her mother says. My Little Pony and Polly Pockets also are favorite toys the girl sees on advertisements.
Barney and the Wiggles are favorites for Breanna, 2, her mother writes to Toybox.
Toybox is a program of the Southeast Missourian and Cape Girardeau Jaycees that provides gifts to needy children up to age 12. Donations from the community help assure that the nearly 500 families seeking assistance get the help they need for the holiday season.
Mr. and Mrs. S. are both ill but manage to help care for one another. Mr. S has arthritis, diabetes and high blood pressure in addition to failing eyesight and hearing problems. Mrs. S. has breathing problems.
The couple has some requests for Christmas and a humidifier for their home could help them both. Both also would like sweat suits; an extra large size for her and a large size for him. Mrs. S. also would like a new gown in size extra large.
Basic household items also would be useful for this couple, as would stamps and stationery items. Pharmacy gift cards would help them with medical costs as well.
Donations should be dropped off at the Southeast Missourian offices before Thursday. Tax-deductible monetary donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 4, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0004.
