The Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge has named its two Students of the Month. The program is an effort to bring recognition to outstanding youth in the area.
Laine Lindley, 18, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Koenig of Cape Girardeau, was selected from Cape Central High School. She has been active in varsity cheerleading, Future Business Leaders of America, Letterman's Club and Latin Club.
Lindley, who was named in Who's Who Among American High School Students, plans to attend the St. Louis College of Pharmacy.
Laura Griffith, 17, the daughter of Richard and Debbie Griffith of Cape Girardeau, was selected from Notre Dame High School. She has been active in Students Against Drunk Driving, Pep Club, cheerleading, student council, Projects Club and acting.
Griffith plans to attend the University of Missouri at Columbia and major in business management and marketing.
Students are nominated for the Student of the Month honor by classmates and teachers in the schools. They later are screened by a school student committee. Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection.
