The following students from Notre Dame, Scott City and Cape Girardeau Central high schools have been named Student of the Month by the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge during the 1998-99 school year. The Student of the Month program is designed to bring recognition to outstanding youth in the area. The following students from Notre Dame, Scott City and Cape Girardeau Central high schools have been named Student of the Month by the Cape Girardeau Elks Lodge during the 1998-99 school year.

The Student of the Month program is designed to bring recognition to outstanding youth in the area. Students are nominated monthly by classmates and teachers in their schools and then screened by a school student committee or panel.

Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection.

Tricia Zimmer, 17, was the Student of the Month in September. Zimmer, a senior at Central High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Zimmer of Cape Girardeau. She is president of the Student Senate, captain of the pom pon squad, and active in National Honor Society and Future Homemakers of America. She is in the top 10 percent of her class and has an A-minus grade point average. After graduation, she hopes to attend a university and obtain a business degree.

Mitchell Ogles, 18, was the Student of the Month for October. Ogles, a senior at Central High School, is the son of Jerry and Jane Ogles of Cape Girardeau. He is a member of varsity football and baseball teams and also participates in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, NHS, Letterman's Club and Young Life. He attends First Baptist Church, is in the top 10 percent of his class and maintains a 3.7 gpa. He hopes to attend college and study engineering or medicine.

Dale Burger, 17, was the Student of the Month for November. Burger, a senior at Scott City High School, is the son of Mike and Judy Burger of Scott City. He is president of Student Council, vice president of NHS and Future Teachers of America, captain of his football team, and a member of the track tea and Future Business Leaders of America. He maintains a B-plus gpa. After graduation, he hopes to attend Southeast Missouri State University.

Jennifer Bonner, 17, was the Student of the Month for January. Bonner, a senior at Central High School, is the daughter of Sandy Bonner of Cape Girardeau. She is captain of the cheerleading squad and senior class vice-president, and has been active in NHS, FBLA and FBLA. She is also a member of Student Senate, Spanish club, Letterman's Club, Young Life and her church youth group. She has been included in Who's Who Among American High School Students twice and has been Student of the Month before. She hopes to attend Valparaiso University and study international economics, cultural affairs and Spanish prior to attending law school.

Annise Maguire, 18, was Student of the Month for February. Maguire, a senior at Central High School, is the daughter of Michael and Sheila Maguire of Cape Girardeau. She is active in orchestra, Beta club, Renaissance club, Team Spirit, Spanish Club, Citizens in Action, FBLA, track, martial arts, and cheerleading. She is first vice-president of NHS and has volunteered as a candy striper at local nursing homes, with Habitat for Humanity and with Safe House for Women. She maintains an A average and hopes to study law.

Stephanie Miller, 17, was also Student of the Month for February. Miller, a senior at Notre Dame Regional High School, is the daughter of Richard and Priscilla Miller of Cape Girardeau. She is active in volleyball, soccer, cheerleading, NHS, Spirit club, Projects club, Scholar Bowl and musical cast and crew. She maintains an A-minus gpa. After graduation, she hopes to attend college and study biomedical engineering.

Micaela Shaffar, 17, was Student of the Month for March. Shaffar, a senior at Notre Dame High School, is the daughter of Michael and Linda Shaffar of Cape Girardeau. She has been active in varsity cross-country, Projects club, and the St. Vincent de Paul parish youth group. She maintains a B-plus gpa and hopes to become a counselor for troubled teens.

Robert Tygett, 17, was also Student of the Month for March. Tygett, a senior at Central High School, is the son of Joseph and Angela Tygett of Cape Girardeau. He is a member of Red Dagger and Thespians club, Young Life, speech and debate, swimming, cross-country and Renaissance. He maintains a B-plus gpa and hopes to study film production.

Amy McBride, 18, was Student of the Month for April. McBride, a senior at Notre Dame Regional High School, is the daughter of Barry and Susie McBride of Vanduser. She is active in FBLA, Projects club, Peer Helpers and Christian Service. She also volunteers as an assistant girls basketball coach for Guardian Angel School, is a senior counselor for camp Re-New-All, and a member of the freshman lock-in planning committee. She maintains a B-plus gpa and hopes to pursue a college degree in psychology.

Myka Bohnsack, 17, also was Student of the Month for April. Bohnsack, a senior at Central High School, is the daughter of Bob and Linda Bohnsack of Cape Girardeau. She is active on cross-country and track teams, and is dance captain of the pom pon squad. She is a member of Student Senate, FBLA, FCA, Beta club and Renaissance, and she attended the Missouri Fine Arts Academy in 1998. She maintains a B-plus gpa and hopes to study art and computer animation.

Nicolette Tanksley, 17, was Student of the Month for May. Tanksley, a senior at Notre Dame High School, is the daughter of Charles and Catherine Tanksley of Cape Girardeau. She participates in Student Council, Students Against Driving Drunk, campus ministry, Hi-Step, scholar bowl, High School Heros, Science Olympiad, American Iris Society and the school play. She has received an academic letter and is secretary/treasurer of NHS. After graduation, she hopes to study environmental science.

Meagan Edmonds, 18, also was Student of the Month for May. Edmonds, a senior at Central High School, is the daughter of Matthew and Brenda Edmonds of Cape Girardeau. She is NHS vice-president, choir representative to Student Senate and a section leader in chamber choir. She also is active in Renaissance, FBLA and Future Homemakers of America. She maintains a B average and hopes to pursue a career in vocal performance.
