BENTON -- Eleven candidates filed for the 2nd District commissioner's seat in Scott County, making it one of the most sought after positions in the area.
Incumbent Wayne Petitt filed, along with challengers Robert Niederkorn, Charles Klueppel, Ben Evans, Joe Lee Michael, Bud Dock, David Coop Dirnberger, Jim Smiley, Dewaine Shaffer, Jimmy Sanders and Kelly Swain. Swain is the only Republican candidate who filed for the second district seat.
First District Commissioner Walter Bizzell is running unopposed. Sheriff Bill Ferrell, Coroner Scott Amick and Surveyor Norman Lambert also are unopposed.
Former Scott County Assessor Gerald Inman is running against incumbent Teresa Houchin. Challengers John Merrick and James "Eddie" Brewer are seeking the assessor's seat, too.
Public Administrator Sonny Alcorn is running for re-election. His challengers are Clifford Pobst and Oran Mayor Louie Hirschowitz, who isn't seeking re-election to city office.
All the races are for four-year terms. The primary election will be Aug. 6.
