Students Raise Money for American Heart Association
West Lane Elementary School was the location for the American Heart Association's All City Jump Rope this year. Open to all Jackson elementary students, students from Orchard and North Elementary Schools; West Lane and Gordonville Attendance Center participated. Altogether, 13 boys and 21 girls jumped.
Students from Orchard Elementary raised $1,126; North Elementary, $688; West Lane, $608 and Gordonville, $510. Rita Henson's class at North Elementary was recognized for the most class participation. Heather Wilke from North Elementary was recognized as the girl who jumped the longest and also raised the most money. Cody Harris from Orchard Elementary was recognized as the boy who jumped the longest and raised the most money. Justin Mouser won a duffle bag and prizes.
Participants were treated to entertainment as well. The Blanchard Jumping Tigers performed a jump rope demonstration including a routine with a country theme. The group performs during Southeast Missouri State University half-time shows and at other Jump For Heart events. They practice double dutch and individual skills weekly. Audience participation was encouraged; sharing and teaching their jumping skills.
Area restaurants provided pizza and drinks for the jumpers.
