ELECTRICIANS DONATE TO TWO LOCAL AGENCIES

Patrons of the Salvation Army and Safe House for Women Inc. will be more comfortable this summer with a donation of electric fans and supplies from local electricians.

The donations were provided by The Quality Connection program, a joint effort of the Cape Girardeau office of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local union and the St. Louis Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association.

IBEW donated many hygiene products, including toothpaste, toothbrushes, toilet paper and first-aid supplies to the Safe House.

"Many women arrive at the Safe House with only the clothes on their back," IBEW business representative Bob Mitchell said. "They need items like toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and shampoo while they're staying there."

In addition, electricians checked the facility's wiring for safety.

Fans donated to the Salvation Army will be available for households that have children younger than 5 or adults at least 55. People with medical conditions also may borrow the fans.
