A woman who was shot earlier this afternoon at an east Cape Girardeau County residence was conscious and interacting with emergency personnel when she was taken to the hospital, but her suspected shooter was dead, said Cape Girardeau County Chief Deputy David James.
Police are currently withholding the names pending notification of family members and the relationship between victim and shooter.
The shooting victim had multiple gunshot wounds from a small caliber revolver, James said. The suspected shooter was a male in his mid-40s. The shooting was an attempted murder-suicide, James said.
Police received a call about the shooting from inside the home at around 2:50 p.m. A young child did live in the home, but was at school at the time.
