St. Mary Early Education Center has a new look, a new name, and several new staff members.
The center was formerly the St. Mary Day Care, which was established in 1988 at 607 William.
"The reason for the name change was a decision to close the infant-toddler unit," said Crystal Barker, the new curriculum director. "Because of this major change, the center is now focusing on early education on children ages 2 through pre-kindergarten, and provides care for children 2 to 12 years of age."
Staff changes include Barker's selection as curriculum director. She will also serve as teacher for the 3-year-old students.
Lisa Gibbar has been named teacher for 5-year-olds; Jan Brockmire is the teacher for 2-year-olds; and Ruth Simmons takes care of the kitchen and after-school children.
New to the center are Becky Orsburn, the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten teacher; Karen Murph, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten aide; and Lori Atzert, an afternoon helper.
The new program focuses on skills children need to acquire before entering kindergarten.
The center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
