Firefighters believe the fire began in the sleeper compartment of the cab near a small refrigerator. The driver smelled smoke and attempted to put out the fire with an extinguisher but couldn't reach it.

Smoke filled the cab and flames engulfed the vehicle. The driver pulled off the interstate just south of the exit to Highway 74.

The owner of the truck was Duane Roesner of Labadie. The truck was pulling an empty flatbed trailer.
